"El Plan Bilingüe"

This article, “El plan bilingue”, written by Jose A. Delgado, has to do with the situation of the language in Puerto Rico. Every time the government change, the deal about language changes. Now Luis Fortuño suggested that schools in Puerto Rico should be bilinguals. But if this happens, for how many years it would be? Could it work? Are the people here in Puerto Rico able to make that change?

Bilingualism is and issue that puertoricans have been carried out since a lot of time. In my opinion, students should have the opportunity to express in both languages. It is not easy for kids to learn a target language when they are in intermediate, because they do not have the bases in their previous grades, but this depends on the teachers and their parents. This is why I think that bilingual schools are a really good idea, but they should start with the elementary level.

I consider this idea that Luis Fortuño presents a very good one. Nowadays to find a job is hard and even harder if you do not know English. I remember when here in Puerto Rico we had public schools that were bilingual and in the actuality we have to matriculate our kids in private schools so they could learn English.

I agree with Liz marie's blog entry because, here in Puerto Rico we do have a problem with bilingualism and in my personal opinion the kids should learn both languages since elementary school so this would be easier on them since the brain of a child its like a sponge it absorbs everything and they are in this stage of curiosity and exited with knowledge so they can teach they’re parents what they’re learning. That’s why Luis Fortuño’s Idea its good because English its always going to be a plus and advantage in a persons life and career. I can tell you for my personal experience I went to a public school and I remember that I was almost just as good in English as my English teacher and just because I was always with my cousins that they lived in the coast guard and I had to force my self to learn so that I can play with them. So you can imagine from my experience if the public schools of Puerto Rico would’ve had a strong English program for kids I would’ve had a better English education.

Liz I agree with you. "El plan bilingue" is another political move of the goverment. Fortuño will use this plan if he wins the elections to be governor of Puerto Rico. What's happennnig with education ,the goverment is taking over it and each time making it worse.
